This August bank holiday weekend, Cardiff Bay welcomes back Cardiff Harbour Festival and the P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea. If you like your sports to be fast and furious, then prepare to have a whale of a time!
There’s a host of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy with water and land based fun for everyone, including an array of free entertainment from nautical themed street performers and live music, to Powerboat and Jet Ski racing. If food is your fancy, you’ll find a great selection of street food from all around the world. From a traditional Hog Roast to Yum Yum’s Oriental flavours – they’ll be something for the whole family to enjoy.
This year’s event will mark P1’s fourth visit to the capital and if you’ve got the need for speed, this is certainly not to be missed! Head down to Mermaid Quay and the Barrage walk for 11am on Sunday and Monday, where a fleet of 11 powerboats, including the Visit Wales race boat, and more than 30 jet ski riders will be competing in the fourth round of the P1 national championships. There’s also a spectacular hydroflight and Jet Ski freestyle display to enjoy. With its stadium-like setting and great facilities, Cardiff Bay provides an outstanding race venue, and, what’s more, the fantastic water activities are free to watch!
Make sure you take a stroll down to the P1 Race Village on Harbour Drive and meet our 18m life-sized sperm whale. It’s not every day you see a whale in Wales, especially one that inflates to become an interactive entertainment area for the kids to enjoy. You can also check out The Pirates Misadventure show – a nautical themed tale taking place inside the whale.
There will be plenty of entertainment during the event, with an eclectic array of live bands playing on the decking of the Norwegian Church. Or you can head down to Roald Dahl Plass to the Capital FM Cardiff Bay Beach, where a bucket load of fun is guaranteed. As you make your way around the Bay, you won’t be able to miss our street entertainment, featuring puppetry, acrobatic, clown and mime performances.
